Class STructure
There are several different ethnicies within the boarders of the Dominican Republic, but power and wealth are determined by the class structure. Race has been a determining factor in progress and social relations in the DR.
The CIA World Factbook claims the nation is divided into three main poulations:
Mixed: 73%
Black: 11%
White: 16%
However, the CIA World Fcatbook doesn't take into consider the subgroups of these populations thus projecting a skewed representation of the racial make up of the Dominican Republic. These populations a futher divided between:
Upper: European decent
Middle: "Mulattoes"or African & European
Lower: African slaves & Hatitians
Currently there is a new middle class emerging that separates the middle class :
Indio Claro: Light skinned mullatoes
Indio Obscuro: Dark skinned mullatoes
